Teaching Academic Standards through School Gardens and Orchards
Summary
Learn how to teach the K-5 academic standards through fruits local to Georgia - strawberries, blueberries, peaches, apples, and other native fruit trees. Participants will engage in hands-on lessons focused on plant parts and the plant's life cycle including pollination. We will read our favorite fiction and non-fiction texts about fruits and explore accompanying writing projects. The workshop will include curriculum integration, knife skills and safety, and a hands-on cooking lesson and comparative taste test. School lunch will be provided at this workshop.
